Spotlight San Juan - St. Germain Bistro & Cafe

**Trolley Stop #8 - 2 blocks north to Calle Sol**

One of the city's hidden treasures, this charming French-inspired café-restaurant stands on a quiet cobbled street corner. The interior is just as inviting, with rustic white wooden tables and benches. St. Germain delivers exceptionally fresh, made-from-scratch food and friendly service. With an emphasis on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, the menu leans slightly (but not entirely!) vegetarian and includes gourmet sandwiches, entrée salads, quiches, and pita pizzas. (Its lightness can be a welcome respite after you've been sampling the delicious but often heavy comida criolla.) Start with an agua fresca, a mildly sweet fruit water that revives you quickly, even on the hottest of days. Then choose from options such as a refreshing mahimahi and shrimp ceviche, hearty lentil soup, or a spinach and mango salad with Dijon vinaigrette. Save room for the just-baked cakes that tempt you from glass stands on the counter. Sunday brunch is wildly popular, so come early, or stop by later in the evening for crepes and wine.
